Development of a computer platform for the enrichment of cultural environments using VR and AR
(IEEE, 2022-05-22) Medrano, Karens; Tejada, Rene; González, Bruno
The implementation of technologies plays a very important role in the user experience within cultural spaces, allowing to add life to static objects in the real world with sounds, visual content and additional information. In this work we propose a web platform design for registration of works that allows and provides support to cultural sites, registering and digitizing their various works, sculptures or exhibition sites, regardless of the technique implemented in these. In addition, technological tools such as vuforia and unity are used to create a mobile application that turns a smartphone into a personal guide that can not only provide textual stories, but can also perform virtual tours of the installations. The functionality of this platform is evaluated by implementing it in a gallery located at the Don Bosco University, demonstrating its versatility.

Development of a mobile application with VR and AR to improve the experience of visitors in cultural settings
(IEEE, 2022-02-11) Medrano, Karens; Tejada, René; González, Bruno; Juarez, Sergio
The implementation of technologies in visits to cultural spaces represents an important factor in the user experience within them, allowing static objects to come to life in the real world through the presentation of visual content and additional information. In this work, a mobile application design is proposed that allows cultural entities to energize the interactive physical tours and also to take virtual tours of the facilities. In the application we will use augmented reality that allows us to locate the exhibited works through the use of markers. Likewise, the Vuforia SDK and the Unity development engine will be used to build applications based on augmented reality and virtual reality. The final mobile application allows our smartphone to be a personal guide that not only provides textual stories, but can also take virtual tours of the facilities. The functionality of this mobile application is evaluated by implementing it in a gallery, thereby demonstrating its versatility. The development of this type of mobile applications can help bring people closer to cultural sites that are difficult to visit and thus contribute to the appreciation of local heritage.

Development of SCADA using a RTU based on IoT controller
(IEEE, 2019-01-13) Medrano, Karens; Altuve, Denis; Belloso, Kelman; Bran, Carlos
The use of SCADA systems in modern industrial processes represents a high cost to the industrial sector due to licensing payments, difficulty in connecting to RTUs from different manufacturers, support only for industrial communication protocols and limited scalability when using a structured database. In this work, a low cost SCADA system was developed, with the possibility of connecting to an RTU based on IoT technology that makes universal communication with field devices through TCP / IP and supported on a NoSQL database. We also evaluate its functionality on a traffic management process incorporating as semaphore field device, which demonstrates the versatility of the solution with response times comparable to those of any commercial alternative.
